Preview: Legends Nickname and Inscription Autographs

For the collector that’s looking for a little something extra, you’ll want to check out the upcoming release of Press Pass Legends. Drivers were asked to sign a handful of their Legends Autograph cards with an added nickname or inscription, and they didn’t disappoint!

NASCAR drivers have some pretty interesting nicknames, several of which you’ll find in Press Pass Legends 2008…you’ve got “Texas Terry” (Terry Labonte), “Sliced Bread” (Joey Logano), “Rowdy” (Kyle Busch), “Mr. September” (Harry Gant), and “The Fox” (David Pearson) to name a few.

Many drivers chose to include an inscription about some of their career defining accomplishments such as “2006 & 2007 Champ” (Jimmie Johnson), “69 Indy 500 Winner” (Mario Andretti), “2003 Champion” (Matt Kenseth), “85 Cup Wins!” (Bobby Allison) and “2 Time NASCAR Cup Champion” (Ned Jarrett).

The driver with one of the most unique Press Pass Legends Autographs is Darrell Waltrip. In addition to his signature plus #17, his wife Stevie Waltrip has also added her signature to some of his cards.

Click on the images below for a look at some of the inscription and nickname autograph cards available.

Leave us a comment and tell us which one is your favorite. Two winners will be selected to receive a free box of 2008 Press Pass NASCAR Legends trading cards.

Press Pass Legends releases in late October. Check our website www.presspassinc.com each week to find out more information about this product that uniquely combines legendary racers from the past along with current stars and up and coming legends of the future.

My favorite is the David Pearson inscription the fox. This dates back to his early days in NASCAR. David would stay in the back conserving his equipment then BAM he would race to the front for the win. Later in his career as he got older they changed it to the grey fox but he prefferd silver fox. that stayed with forever. he was the best. my second fave is the waltrps. as the saying goes behind every great man is a great woman. this shows his love for her and is a welcome addition to the lineup.

Im going to have to go with the Texas Terry one. I never knew thats what they called him. Its like an outlaw name, how cool is that!
And the other one would have to be Darrel Waltrips inscription Auto.
I think having his wife sign on the card with him, just really shows the world how much she really means him.
Isnt love grand!!

Easy one - the Jimmy Johnson one will need to be updated soon to read 06,07 AND 08 Champ - what a great insert set - these are always the most fun to chase and it is always a thrill to pull one - Legends is going to cost me a ton this year....

Although I am a Jimmie Johnson fan, I would have liked it better with an actual "nickname" on his. So I guess if I had to choose a favorite, I would go with DW and his wife! That is really cool and I think alot of them should do that. Shows a bit of dedication!

My favorite one is the JJ inscription. They are all nice, but I would have liked to seen a autograph with the Nicknames on the Kyle Busch and Lagano. Can't wait for the release!

What an absolutely amazing set. Logano is incredible. I love the "Sliced Bread" nickname. The inclusion of Mario. Still, if I had to go with a favorite I would agree with Mike and say David Pearson would be the one.

geoffbodinefan said...

I love the Harry Gant card! But, I'm going to go with the David Pearson card as my fav. A very suitable nickname for one of the true legends of NASCAR! The Legends set has to be, by far, my favorite! Any set that includes the "Old-School" racers is tops in my book :-)

Hello, I like the Joey Lagano "Sliced Bread" Inscription. You know what they say "The next best thing since sliced bread."

Needless to say my favorite is the "Texas Terry" ! I LOVE the picture of him on the card. Absolutely have to have one!!! Can you guess why??

My 2nd favorite is DW & his wife Stevie. Stevie did a lot of work behind the scenes and it's awesome to see her autograph along with DW's.

mattthebrat17 said...

Being "inscription" cards, I would favor the last Winston Cup Champion Matt Kenseths' "2003 champion". #2 would be Rowdy, one of the most appropriate inscriptions. Perfect.

I would have to go with the Mario Andretti... "69 Indy 500 Winner" says it all! As a child in the late 60's/early 70's... I would always pretend to be Andretti when we would race our bikes to the 7-11. This is one sweet card!!

Awesome looking set!!! It would be a lot sweeter with a "Cousin Carl" auto though. If I had to pick on for a favorite I would go with the Darrell Waltrip and Stevie Waltip. Keep up the good work on the Legends release!! I know it is a lot of collectors favorite release.

D.W. all the way! The first race I ever watched was the 1989 Daytona 500. It was D.W. with his driving style and his post race interview that got me hooked. What Personality!I haven't missed a single race since!

Lets give a shout out to the women behind the scene of our favorite Nascar Legends. I think it is so cool to see a driver like Darrell Waltrip with his wife Stevie on any card let alone with both Autographs. A lot of times these women don't get enough credit for all the behind the scenes stuff they do like marketing, merchandizing, fan club, along with letting our favorite driver stare death in the face every weekend for our enjoyment. Racing wives Rock! What can I stay!

cravenfan07 said...

I am going to have to go with the Kyle Busch inscription. Love him or hate him - it is easy to tell from that one who wrote it and that they mean it! Very cool looking set - love the layout!

Man those are some pretty awesome ideas for this years legends set! I would have to go with the Logano or Bush inscriptions as my favorite. Rowdy fits Kyle perfect and also the fact it comes from one of the, if not the best movie of all time! Sliced bred, well if he is or if he is not sliced bread this will be the most sought after rookie card to come along in a while! Keep up the great work!

Anonymous said...

I would have to say Darrell Waltrip and Stevie because behing every driver there is a woman. If the driver had a bad day he can just talk to her and he'll forget about the day.

bret2 said...

I have to go with Mario Andretti.
A very nice looking car that will give both fans of Nascar as well as Indy Racing something to go after!

jmplionel said...

I am happy that the set includes both old school and new school drivers. My favorite would have to be Mario Andretti and my second would be Ned Jarrett, though he could have signed as "Gentleman Ned".

Robbie said...

I have to go with the Darrell and Stevie Waltrip autographed card.

First of all, Darrell is the King of Bristol. My hometown is Bristol TN, and I was one of many who wondered if Ol' Jaws was EVER going to lose another race there!

And, second, it's nice to see some of the drivers' wives get recognized with this set. Just like with Dale and Teresa, Richard and Lynda, Kyle and Pattie, Kevin and DeLana, and many others, it's often seen that the wives are the driving force behind our successful NASCAR drivers.

Thanks, Press Pass! PP Legends Racing '09 is looking great, and thank you for putting out a nice collectible each fall.

My favorite is Richard Petty. You can never lose with “43”. He helped put NASCAR in the minds of sports fans around the globe. Always wearing his cowboy hat, a smile and carrying a Sharpie, he is always glad to sign an autograph for anyone. Ask Kyle Petty about his Dad and signing autographs when he was a kid. He will tell you that while he played in the infield for hours after a race, “The King” would sign for anyone and would not leave until he signed for the very last fan. He is the greatest champion and ambassador NASCAR has and he will forever be my hero.
LONG LIVE THE KING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wow! Just one? Come on Press Pass, they're all cards that I would love to have in my collection! That said, I have to go with Mr. Darrell Waltrip. How awesome is it that he let Stevie in on the action? Her being by his side helped make him the legendary driver that he's become! I think this could even start a new trend... DeLana/Kevin Harvick and Chrissie/Ryan Newman autographed cards in the future? Sounds great to me! Of all of the cards in the set, love conquers all!

I AM GOING TO HAVE TO GO WITH THE TERRY LABONTE. I HAVE ALWAYS LIKED HIS AUTOGRAPH AND THE TEXAS TERRY PART IS GREAT.

dustysara2 said...

I would say the Bobby Allison is my favorite. Not only is he a GREAT Nascar champion, but it is sometimes forgotten how many wns some legends had. I have to say, though, that I am dissapointed to see the Kyle Busch and Joey Logano cards don't have their actual autograph. It's neat to see the nickname, but I would rather have had them sign the nickname below their actual autograph. I would be let down if I got one of these in a pack. Just my humble opinion, and I've been collecting press pass cards for 7 years.

Joey Logano "Sliced Bread"

JefferyJ said...

I would have to say any of the autographs would be very nice to add to my collection. I like the Darrell & Stevie autographs. But the one I like the best would have to be Jeff Gordon 24. He is one of the best there is winning on all types of tracks and the number of wins he has had.

skippy said...

My best one I hink is the Darrel and Stevie dual autograph. To have Stevie take the time out and share in the signing of Darrels card with him speaks of her character. Everybody always forgets the time and investment that the spouse has to share out every year for their loved ones to do what their passion is. This is a small token I think of appreciation garnered for them.

PaJimmieFan said...

I think all the cards are great and would love to have them all in my collection. But if i had to pick just one it would be the Jimmie Johnson card for a couple reasons. One he is my favorite driver and by far one of the best drivers to come to the sport. If there is anyone in the sport right now who has the ability to come close to surpassing the king Richard and Dale Earnhardt in championships it would be him.

Lesracing said...

I'm inclined to agree with most that have commented so far about the Darrell/Stevie Waltrip Inscription auto... It's a fantastic card!

It's GR8 to see Stevie sharing her passion with Darrel and the fans by taking the time to sign jointly making it an awesome card.

I've also seen the Darrell Waltrip inscription card "Proverbs 18:10" (The name of the LORD is a strong tower: the righteous runneth into it, and is safe.)

Darrell shares a comfort to some of collectors through a simple inscription. KUDOS!

Keep up the GR8 work Press Pass!!!

Of course I'm biased, but I love the Jimmie Johnson one. I think PP did an excellent job on these, as all of them are nice!

Legends just keeps getting better and better! Keep up the good work!

I love the Joey Logano "Sliced bread" card. That card is the bomb. Especially for a future rising star such as he is!!!! I currently am a Dale Jr. fan but will be watching Joey next year as well. That is such an appropriate nickname for him the way he slices thru traffic!!!!!!!

say the auotgraphs look awesome and have to rank the race-used pieces are some nice looking from the ones i've seen so far....can't wait to open the box i get from press pass

Captain Canuck said...

so many great ones to choose from. One of my favourite drivers is Kyle Busch... but I would've much preferred both his nickname and sig on the card. So I'll have to go with Bobby Allison. Who can argue with 85 wins???

xnamyeknomx said...

Man they all are really good, but if i had to choose it would be the Texas Terry. It makes me think of the good ol' days of Terry and Dale Earnhardt Sr. going at it and that card would be the one that I would like to own the most. I have never got an autograph from Terry so this would be the one to get for me.

rojolobo56 said...

"The King", "The Fox", "Bobby Allison "85 Wins". Anybody that grew up watching "Wide World of Sports" knows and respects these 3 greats of the sport. If I had to choose only one though, I would have to go with David Pearson, who was my favorite driver (followed closely by Cale Yarborough - any inscription cards for HIM?).
I have to admit that it would be really tough to decide if I actually saw all of these cards in one place and only had the money for one.

Great work on this awesome set. My favorite is the Mario Andretti 69 Indy 500 Winner.
Keep up the great work.

Gotta go with Richard Petty. He is The King and all. Plus he has the coolest looking signature out there.

my favorite is the kyle busch but i also like the logano.

"Texas" Terry Labonte is one of the most versatile and consistent racers ever to drive in Winston Cup..He started a record 655 consecutive races over a 21-year span and was the Cal Ripken of Stock Car racing after breaking Richard Petty's record of consecutive starts,in route to title number two in 1996. Also known as the IceMan (Stolen by Val Kilmer in Top Gun) Rick Hendrick once said that "If Texas Terry had he been a little selfish he could've accomplished even more in his career!!" He is and will always be one of Nascar's most respected drivers.
I'd like to see if he signed cards "Iceman" or "Ironman"

Press Pass Keeps right on the edge of excellence. Congrats on the inscription Autographs. I have to go with David Pearson, THE Fox , The best of the best, Also Only Kyle Busch could pull off Rowdy. Very cool. Gordon is cool, J.J. is awesome. Matt Kenseth Oh My!!!!

The Mario Andretti aautograph card is my favorite. The autograph and inscription look and work well together.I would be happy to add the card to my collection.

I like the Mario autograph. I like the addition of other forms of racing.

I'm gonna cast a vote for the Darrell/Stevie Waltrip Inscription. So many of the wives are fixtures at the track and I think they should be included more in the card sets. Stevie Waltrip used to deliver a scripture to Dale Earnhardt before each race if I'm not mistaken. Things like this are of interest to the fans....Then Of Course I throw a second Vote for The Jeff Gordon....;)

As for the ones that you posted, I would have to also say Darrell & Stevies Autographs.

My personaly favorite though is one that you did not have listed, that I now have in my personal collection. It is Mark Martin's autograph inscripted with #8. I have card # 03/10, and as you know DEI founder Dale Earnhardt drove #3. On this particular card Mark Martin did not inscribe #8, he signed Dale 8, I could not believe my eyes when I saw this. If anyone is interested in seeing the scan of the card, you can email me at warped44@hotmail.com And I would be happy to email the scan to you.

Thanks Press Pass for all the great products you offer, I used to collect diecast, but now, about all I collect is Press Pass. You make an awesome product!!!!!

I have to go with Jimmie Johnson 06/07 champ auto. I like autos that are clean, unique, and look like the signer put some effort into signing a nice autograph. I like the 'nickname and inscription' concept. The hobby needs more ideas like this.

dalejrfan said...

I like the Jimmie Johnson card I like the way he signed with the years he has won. Next time he will have to add another year.

dalejrrocks said...

I will have to go with jimmy johnson on this one. it is nice to see that nascar and the fans to see the ones from the start of nascar. they are the ones that made nascar what it is today and they need to be remembered, if it wasn't for them where would us rednecks be doing now???? lol

will have to take kyle busch. my dad is 68 and he finally found one that he will root for. i am going to go with joey i think in a few yrs he will be the one to beat. I am on disablilty so i have never been able to afford to go to a live race, so the cards are as close as i can get. special cards excite me, like i had just won a million dollars. my all time favs or the earnhardts. but i couldn't vote for them! thanks for considering me!! lets go racing!
